Malawian Singer and dancehall artist ProVoice, is in deep pain over the lower turnout in royalties paid to the singer for his hit song “Tunduma”.
According to Provoice and his management Knock It Music Group “Tunduma” was one of the most successful songs during the period between 2021 and 2022. In the argument despite this well known fact ProVoice has only received K6,000 Malawi Kwacha from the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation through Cosoma and nothing from private radio stations.
In an open letter to the Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA), Knock It Music Group called the situation a “grave injustice” and they’re demanding for an investigation into the matter.
The group argued that the current royalty distribution system is flawed and needs urgent reform to ensure fair compensation for local musicians.
The group believes Provoice’s “Tunduma” was a hit single, that was enjoying massive airplay on public and private radio stations.
The group still believes that the song’s success warrants significantly higher royalty earnings for the artist.
Knock It Music Group urged COSOMA to take immediate action to rectify the situation, engage with stakeholders, and implement measures to guarantee fair and transparent royalty payments to all artists.
The group warned that allowing such a high-profile song like “Tunduma” to be undervalued sets a dangerous precedent that threatens to discourage and demoralize Malawian musicians.
They look forward to COSOMA’s prompt response and resolution of the matter.
Provoice has announced that he will go live today on his Facebook page to further elaborate on the proceedings in this matter.
