In line with the recent trendiest scandal, that involves Malawi’s top actor and Videographer Tumpe Nigel Mkaya commonly known as PHWEDO. Who is currently in custody under suspicions that he defiled a minor.

The 4 Kaya production company has managed to take a stand where it says “Let the law do its job” this is according to a recent Press Release issued on their Facebook page.

News broke out during late hours of 22 April 2025 that Phwedo was in police custody following a complaint that was received at Lilongwe Area 3 Police station, where he was implicated for defiling a minor. The artist was taken from his home at Kawale, in Lilongwe and currently he is still in the hands of police waiting to appear in court.

According to police the artist defiled a 15 year old whose name has been withheld for security reasons.

Meanwhile the 4 Kaya as a company that is credited for bringing Phwedo to fame, has distanced itself from the saga saying as a Law abiding business they would let the law do its work and so the truth must prevail. In a statement signed by Kendall Kamwendo who is also producer of the upcoming movie Welcome to Maula Prison has explained that.

They are aware that these are serious allegations involving one of their cast members. As the nature of these allegations are deeply concerning and they take them seriously. So being a company that upholds highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism they’re are not in a position to Comment on this matter rather leave it to relevant authorities to do their job.
