In “Best World Music Album” category. When curiosity hit us as to who has managed to pull such a step. Surprisingly it was nobody among these established musicians. Only to find out that a Zomba Maximum Prison Band did the job comprised of Zomba Prison Inmates. Nobody knows how they did it, but they actually did it. Even though they didn’t win, they did it.
Anyway, the album that managed to achieve the wonders was “I have No Everything Here” produced by Grammy winning record producer Ian Brennan. Who first entered the Zomba Prison in 2013 were he had no hope that the prison would give him a chance to record at the campus. But after talking to authorities his request was granted, and the album was released in January 2015.
Brennan recorded the album, that was written by these 16 different inmates. The Zomba Prison Project “I Have No Everything Here” was competing with other nominees for the 57th Grammy Awards in the “World Best Music Album” category. Among these nominees were Brazilian Icon Gilberto Gil’s “Gilbertos Samba Ao Vivo”, Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo’s “sings” South African Ladysmith’s Black Mambazo’s ” Music from Inala” and Indian Anoushka Shankar’s “Home”. Some of the songs in this “Zomba Prison Project” album are “Give me back my child”, “I see the whole world dying of Aids” and “Don’t hate me”. The album usually comprised of Inmates whom some were no singers but it usually comprised of each telling their personal stories.
