Mwanza West Parliamentarian Maureen Chitsulo Chirwa who is daughter to the late Joyce Chitsulo has expressed her profound honour and gratitude to people of Mwanza West for entrusting her with a huge task of leading the way in developing their constituency.
In her maiden speech on Friday before the house of records was adjourned to next week, Chirwa who captivated the interests of Malawi Congress Party enthusiasts (MCP) in the area expressed her deep desire to save her people better saying that time is now when the youth have to be in fore front to bring development in their area.
Chirwa has also thanked former President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and other MCP faithfuls for trusting her to be the candidate for the constituency despite many other notable names showing interest to contest for the same position. She cited that this is a sign that the party cherishes what her late mother did for the area and wanted her to continue with the development.
The win for Hon. Chirwa does not only benefit the people of her constituency, but as the country strives to advocate for youth empowerment and women activism, this is a major boost as it will elevate the confidence of many youth in the country to stand up and compete for positions that have for long been occupied by the old generation.
As a role model to school drop outs, early and unplanned pregnancy victims, she steps into the August House carrying a message of hope to those hopeless that with passion and dedication, everything is possible. Hon. Chirwa took up the challenge when the world had turned up against her, losing her mother, the one she had been looking up to, but she never allowed the circumstances that surrounded her define her destiny. She stood up, took the challenge and contested for the legislative position. Even though the odds were against her, she emerged victorious.
