Malawi Updates on Citizens Affected in a Bus Crash in Limpopo

The Malawi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has provided an update on the recent bus crash in South Africa. The bus, which was travelling from South Africa to Malawi via Zimbabwe, veered off the along a mountainous stretch of the N1Highway.

The bus was carrying over 90 passengers, mainly Malawian and Zambabwean nationals. Unfortunately, 43 people lost their lives in the tragic incident.

The Ministry has confirmed that 14 Malawians have been identified and accounted for. However, 8 Malawians remain unaccounted for. Six Malawians were treated as outpatients, and 8 are currently receiving medical care in hospital.

The Ministry is working closely with South African authorities to assist affected families and ensure the safe return of those injured. The identification process has been challenging due to some passengers not having proper identification documents.

The Malawi government continues to coordinate with South African authorities to provide support and assistance to those affected. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims of the and we wish those injured a speedy recovery.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The Malawi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is urging Malawians travelling abroad to exercise extreme caution and follow safety guidelines to avoid such tragic incidents.

The Embassy of Malawi in South Africa is providing assistance to the families of the victims and those affected. The Embassy is working tirelessly to ensure that the affected families receive the necessary support and guidance during this difficult time.

The tragic incident highlihts the importance of road safety and the need for vigilance when traveling. The Malawqii government is committed to working with regional and international partners to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents on our roads.
