The Kenyan Catholic church has introduced a new brand of wine, so called “Mass wine” of which is to replace the altar wine brand. This follows the Outspread of old brand, altar wine, in shops, hotels, bars and many enjoyment places.

According to the Kenya Conference of Catholics Bishops (KCCB), the Mass wine, a new brand is imported from the South Africa. Thereafter, catholic church will be distributing a new brand throughout the country to make it completely available

This marks the end of altar wine as all Parishes has been told to forget about using the brand, saying it has lost its Holy distinction.

In Catholic church, wine and bread are prepared with a sacred ritual. The wine is commonly reddish which is believed as blood of Jesus and the bread as the body of Christ. This belief is rooted in the Last Supper, where Jesus shared bread and wine with his disciples, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you” (Luke 22:20).

The use of wine among Catholics is believed as a way to participate in sacrifice of Jesus Christ and to receive spiritual nourishment.

Normally, The priest consecrates the wine during the Mass or Holly Communion and drinks it as part of ceremony. Then, all Faithful church members drinks too after the Priest.

On the other hand, people who are not believers and don’t adhere to the teachings of the Christ and Church are not allowed to drink the Holy wine.
