Farmers in Mzimba District are witnessing a remarkable regrowth of their crops after a devastating hailstorm ravaged the area last month. The storm, which caught many off guard, left a trail of destruction, with tobacco plants being cut down to almost ground level.
Determined to salvage their crops, farmers took swift action, applying fertilizer to stimulate regrowth. And now, thanks to the recent rains, the plants are growing again, bringing hope and relief to the farming community.
“We are just happy to have something,” said Charles Botha, a local farmer. “The storm was a huge setback, but we are grateful for the rain.”
Although the regrown crops are not as big and healthy as before, farmers are still optimistic about the harvest. However, they acknowledge that the storm’s impact will still be felt.
“We are grateful for the rain, but we know there are still challenges ahead,” Botha added. “We will not harvest as much as we expected, but we’re making the most of it.”
The regrowth of crops is a welcome relief for the community, which relies heavily on farming for food and income. As farmers continue to tend to their regrown crops, they are hopeful that the weather will remain favorable, allowing them to bring in a decent harvest.
